Snow Golem (Minecraft)

Snowball fight!

Minecraft Snow Golem

Made as a last-minute Christmas gift for a certain Minecraft fan.  I’ve seen one picture of a crocheted snow golem online, but the parts were round!  I decided that cubes were required…. (Not that I’m a perfectionist or anything, honest…. cubes *are* more effort)

My design – the (very simple) pattern is given below.

Pattern:

Base:

A cube in white yarn, made from three parts.

Sides:
Chain 10
Row 1: Turn, ch2 (=first sc), sc in each ch to end (10 across)
Row 2-10: Turn, ch2 (=first sc), sc in each ch to end, through both loops of each sc (10 across)
Row 11: Turn, ch2 (=first sc), sc in each ch to end, through back loop only of each sc (this gives the corner – 10 across)
Row 12-20: Turn, ch2 (=first sc), sc in each ch to end, through both loops of each sc (10 across)
Row 21: Turn, ch2 (=first sc), sc in each ch to end, through back loop only of each sc (this gives the corner – 10 across)
Row 22-30: Turn, ch2 (=first sc), sc in each ch to end, through both loops of each sc (10 across)
Row 31: Turn, ch2 (=first sc), sc in each ch to end, through back loop only of each sc (this gives the corner – 10 across)
Row 32-39: Turn, ch2 (=first sc), sc in each ch to end, through both loops of each sc (10 across)
Move into position to create a square cross-section, with Row 39 by the starting chain.
Row 40: Turn, ch1, slip stitch into first ch of starting ch, *(hook through next ch and both loops of corresponding sc in Row 39, draw up a loop through loops of row 39 sc, YOH, draw through all remaining loops on hook), repeat from * to last sc and finish off.

Top and Bottom (Make 2)
Chain 10
Row 1: Turn, ch2 (=first sc), sc in each ch to end (10 across)
Row 2-10: Turn, ch2 (=first sc), sc in each ch to end, through both loops of each sc (10 across)
Finish

Sew together and stuff to make bottom cube. With my tension, 3.5mm hook and dk acrylic yarn, this gave a ~5cmx5cmx5cm cube.

Middle:

As for the base, but 8x8x8 rows/scs rather than 10x10x10. Again, in white.

Head:

As for the base, but 9x9x9 and in orange yarn.

*Before* sewing together and stuffing, stitch on the mouth and eyes in black. Don’t make them too rounded!

When sewing the parts together, the base and middle should be in line, but I like having the head at a slight angle.

Arms:

Make 2, brown yarn

chain 14
Row 1: Turn, ch2 (first sc), sc in each ch to end.
Row 2: Turn, ch 1 (first slip stitch), slip stitch in each sc to end (I find a third row helps to stop the strip curling)
Finish

Buttons:
Make 6, black yarn.

Make a magic loop (see Crochet Quick Reference tab if you’re not familiar with these) with (2sc, ch2) four times. Slip stitch from the last chain to the first sc once tightened to give a square button.

Sew to front as shown.

As ever, feel free to use, adjust and share the pattern, but please attribute the pattern to me (e.g. by linking to this site).
