Eeek – Spiders!

So, my Nanah wanted a toy spider.  I made one.

To see the legs more clearly…

....climbing up the wall

Dangling spider

I made up the pattern as I went along – very simple:

Body – black thread

Animaguri magic loop with 6sc (I used a 5mm hook, and the body diameter is ~2cm – adjust as you see fit!)

Round 2: ch1, 2sc in each sc around, join with slip stitch to first sc (12 around)

Round 3: ch1, (sc in first sc, 2sc in next) repeat around, join with slip stitch to first sc (18)

Round 4-5: ch1, sc in each sc around, join with slip stitch to first sc (18 around)

Round 6: ch1, (dec over next two sc, sc in next) repeat around, join with slip stitch to first dec (12)

Round 7-end: dec around and finish.

Legs – black thread, make 8.  Unless you want a mutant or injured spider, anyway.

Chain 18

Turn, ch1, sc in third loop from hook, sc in next 6 ch.  [lower leg]

2sc in next ch.  Twist the chain so you’re using the other side of the loops, but continue working along the starting chain.  2sc in next ch.  [spider knees!]

sc in remaining 8 ch to end [upper leg]  Leave trailing end for securing legs to body.

Assembly:

Use the trailing thread to attach the legs to the body.  I did this from the underside of the leg, with the leg pointing upwards, to give it the initial bend.  White thread for web as wished, and googly eyes make everything better.  I admit that more than two eyes might be more appropriate…. but probably less cute.
